What matters?

I have spent many years interacting with babies and parents, and no matter what the fashion or popular view at any particular time, one question always looms large - am I doing a good job? Of course we all have lot and lots of natural parenting worries and thoughts! It's never ending! I often say I am not the perfect parent, but I have grown to believe that I am the perfect parent for my child. And everybody else is too! Because we know our child better than anyone, particularly babies. Connecting with your baby and making them feel secure and loved is the most important thing! Everything else will follow. And how do we do that? I think it's the simplest things that matter..... time to play freely, creating, time in nature, responding to needs, bonding and cuddles. And, of course, music - well I would say that! But I don't necessarily mean attending classes, but singing to your baby is so comforting for them, however badly you think you might sound. Your voice is one of their safety anchors and they love familiar tunes and rhymes. Linking songs with actions is wonderful too as it can involve 'nurturing touch', which in itself is relaxing for both baby and parent. Give it a go!
